Megan, was diagnosed with Nephrotic syndrome, a rare kidney condition. Since diagnosis she has been in and out of hospital and on various medications.
The charity NeST (Nephrotic syndrome Trust Reg no 1107601) provides funding to the research team at Bristol Hospital who are working hard to find a cure for Nephrotic Syndrome and provide treatment care for those with the rare disorder. Recently the charity have spoken about how they have had less peoeple fundraising and donations since covid. As a family we did alot of fundraising for NeST before covid however I understood that during covid many businesses were unable to help us so I took a break. However after hearing the plea from the charity earlier this week I feel now its the right time to get back into fundraising to help them stay afloat.
Therefore I am beginning my mission to secure prizes for a Big raffle I am holding in May this year at my workplace. Previously we raised £1,000 by doing the raffle and I would love to match or even beat that this year. I would be so grateful if you were able to donate anything to our raffle, no matter how small, it would be much appreciated and will help us to sell more tickets, raise more money and spread awareness of what Nephrotic Syndrome is and how to spot it.
At the age of 2 Megan went for months with allergy symptoms, swelling in her face and body, trips to the GP to be referred for more tests, and an ambulance trip to hospital as her lips were so swollen before she got a diagnosis - luckily a consultant at the hospital recognised Megan's symptoms and test results confirmed her kidneys were leaking protein and they confirmed she had Nephrotic Syndrome. Finally she could receive the treatment she desperately needed. We had never heard of Nephrotic Syndrome until that day and didn't realise then how it would change Megan's life. Over the last ten years she has tried various medications, had numerous relapses and 2 kidney biopsies. She is currently doing very well on the medication but her renal team continue to work toward getting her medication free, something she's not been since diagnosis.
Megan is a remarkable young lady who takes it all in her stride. She loves helping out with fundraising and now at the age of 12 she is keen to get really involved. I know she would love it if you could help us out, but we do understand that often this is not possible due to other commitments and costs.
If you could let us know either way that would be a great help! I am happy to answer any further questions and provide official charity details to confirm the raffle.
